A week ago I discovered Terminator. It has mostly solved an ongoing frustration I’ve had with how to structure all my gnome-terminal windows.  A great getting started guide is here: http://maketecheasier.com/maximize-your-terminal-usage-with-terminator/2008/12/21.

The only drawback I’ve found to it so far is that it does not have (or I cannot find) the built in S/KEY integration that gnome-terminal has which allows you to control-click on the challenge string and enter your password.  I also wish there was some way to attach to a complete terminator session like screen allows.  Given the choice between using screen or terminator for multiple screens in the same window, terminator wins hands down for me because it requires a fraction of the keystrokes and provides pleasant scroll bars.
