The first quarter of 2010 has come to an end and it is time to check in and see how I’m doing on my 2010 goals.

1.  Weigh 170 lbs by December 31, 2010
This was an arbitrary number based on how much I lost in 2009.  A consultation with my doctor says I’m already at a healthy weight and don’t need to lose more.  I haven’t decided what to do about this goal–whether to change it, drop it, or keep pursuing it.  The good news is I haven’t gone backwards since 2009 which I consider part of meeting this goal.  My next action for this goal is to decide by June 30, 2010, whether to pursue this goal in earnest or change it something else.

2. Play 365 games of chess
As of yesterday I’ve played 92 games and my playing has definitely improved.  A speed game takes about 15 minutes and it is a fantastic break from work that clears the mind.

This goal drove me to find a better place to play than Yahoo Games where I often had to wait a long time to find an opponent for a timed game.  This led me to a fantastic service called the Free Internet Chess Server and a great application (already in Fedora) called eboard.  eboard is a local client with a simple interface that connects to FICS.

So far nobody in Fedora has challenged me to play, but hopefully that will change soon.  There has to be at least one Fedora chess player out there, but where to find them?

3. Provide organization and leadership to closing the outstanding Fedora Board topics about Fedora’s strategic direction

The Strategic Working Group (SWG) has met consistently and worked through a number of previously unresolved issues .  When the last two issues are closed, the SWG will have completed its job.  I’m expecting that to be in April 2010 or May at the latest.

4. Provide clear and consistent reminders to Fedora development about upcoming Fedora 13 milestones each week or as applicable

Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I’ve sent these out every week to the team mailing lists.  In a few cases it appears that they have been good reminders of upcoming tasks that might have otherwise been overlooked and gone incomplete.

5. Help create 25 new Release Engineering SOPs

We got off to a great start here and have slowed down as the Fedora 13 release gets closer to GA.  I’d estimate we have completed 10 SOPs.  The release ticket page is starting to get filled in and I’m sure there are some that are completed that just needs links to them.  With nine more months left in the year I’m sure we can reach 25, but I haven’t been as diligent on this goal as I would have liked.  As a stretch goal I’d love to see every line/ticket on https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Release_Engineering_Release_Tickets have a URL by the end of 2010.

6. Post 52 times to this blog in 2010 with at least one post each week

Thirteen weeks have elapsed in 2010.  So far there are twenty-four posts in 2010 with a posting at least once each week.  A few weeks it is has been close, but I’ve managed to pull it off.

We’ll check in again on these goals again at the end of June 2010.  How are your goals going for 2010?
